Pensioners Beware: Major Data Leak and Fraudulent Schemes Targeting You!
Pensioners, Please Be Cautious! Beware of Calls Claiming to be from Jeevan Pramaan Patra – Widespread Fraud Alert!
Online Financial Fraud Targeting Pensioners on the Rise
Kerala Police have issued a warning about the increasing online financial fraud targeting pensioners in the state. The fraud is perpetrated in the name of Jeevan Pramaan Patra, which is required for central pension.
Modus Operandi
Fraudsters, having stolen pensioners' data, contact them by phone claiming to be from Jeevan Pramaan Patra. They gain trust by revealing correct information such as the pensioner's date of appointment, date of retirement, Pension Payment Order number, Aadhaar number, and other details.
Then, they ask the pensioner to provide the OTP (One-Time Password) received on their phone to renew the Jeevan Pramaan Patra. Because the fraudsters initially provide correct information, pensioners often trust them and share the OTP.
As soon as the OTP is provided, money is immediately withdrawn from the pensioner's bank account. The Cyber Crime division is investigating how the fraudsters are obtaining pensioners' information, according to the police.
The Pension Directorate has clarified that officials will never call or contact pensioners online regarding the renewal of Jeevan Pramaan Patra for continued pension disbursement. If you fall victim to fraud, reporting the incident within one hour can help prevent the loss of money.
Kerala Police advises that you should file a complaint on the number 1930 if you are a victim of such fraud.
