Introduction to SCDD ITI Admissions

The Scheduled Castes Development Department (SCDD) in Kerala is inviting applications for admission to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for the academic year 2025-26. These ITIs offer training programs as per the NCVT curriculum. This provides students with valuable vocational skills.

ITI Locations and Courses

The ITIs under the SCDD are located in various districts across Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod. These institutions provide training in a range of metric and non-metric trades according to the NCVT syllabus.

Reservation Policy

Admissions are subject to a reservation policy, with 80% of seats reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, 10% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, and 10% for candidates from other categories. If there are insufficient applications from any category, the vacancies will be filled by SC and ST candidates according to regulations.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Driver cum Mechanic course, applicants must be 18 years of age. For other courses, the minimum age is 14. There is no upper age limit. Changes to age, qualifications, course duration, and seat availability are subject to the guidelines of the Director General of Training, Government of India.

Applications can be submitted online. The age limit is 14 years with no upper age restriction.

Benefits

Free training is provided. SC/ST candidates receive a lump sum grant, monthly stipend, and hostel allowance. All candidates receive textbooks, study tour allowance, workshop dress allowance, free lunch, and nutritional supplements.

Admission Details

80% of seats are reserved for SC students. 10% of the total seats are reserved for ST applicants, and 10% for applicants from other categories. If sufficient applications aren't received from a particular category, the vacant seats will be filled by SC/ST candidates.

Educational Qualifications and Selection

Candidates who have passed or failed SSLC (or equivalent) are eligible for various trades. These include two-year, one-year, and six-month courses. Two-year courses include Draughtsman Civil, Electrician, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Electronics Mechanic, Surveyor, and Painter (General). One-year courses include Wood Work Technician, Plumber, Welder, and Sewing Technology. Driver cum Mechanic (LMV) is a six-month course. Selection is based on marks obtained in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the SSLC examination. Grace marks are awarded for higher educational qualifications. The minimum qualification for metric trades is SSLC. SSLC failures are considered only for non-metric trades. Private SSLC failures are not eligible.

Working Hours

ITIs operate in two shifts: 7:50 AM to 3:00 PM and 10:00 AM to 5:10 PM. All ITIs are working institutions except for general holidays declared by the Training Director/Government. These institutions do not have vacation holidays.

Available Benefits

Training is completely free. Students receive lunch and nutritional supplements. A sum of ₹900 is provided for workshop dress and tailoring. SC/ST candidates receive a lump sum grant of ₹1000 in the first year and ₹800 in the second year, along with a monthly stipend of ₹800. A study tour allowance of ₹3,000 is provided. Uniforms are mandatory during training.
