Local Body Election Voter List Registration

The deadline for renewing the voter list in preparation for the local body elections has been extended to August 12, according to the State Election Commissioner. The draft voter list for the 2025 Panchayat/Municipality election has been published. All voters should check whether their name is included in the draft list published after ward re-arrangement. Opportunity to add name and make corrections in the voter list is available till August 7, 2025. Those who have completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2025 can register their names in the voter list.

  • Application and Grievance Acceptance: Until August 7, 2024
  • Update Completion by Electoral Registration Officers: August 29, 2024
  • Final Voter List Publication: August 30, 2024

Voter Statistics

The draft list for the general election to local bodies contains 2.67 crore voters, including 1.26 crore men, 1.40 crore women, and 233 transgenders. The updated voter list will be published on July 1, 2024. Further opportunities will be available for adding and removing names, potentially changing the current figures in the final list to be published on August 30.

Polling Booth Details

There will be a total of 30,759 polling booths for the 2025 local general election. This includes 5450 booths in municipalities and corporations and 25,309 booths in panchayats. The arrangement is one polling booth for 1300 voters in a ward in panchayats and one polling booth for 1600 voters in municipalities and corporations. There are 1272 booths with less than 500 voters. Although the number in municipalities and corporations has been fixed at 1600, there are 34 booths with more than 1600 voters. In the 2020 general election, there were a total of 34,710 polling booths.

How to Check the Draft Voter List

The draft voter list will be available on the Election Commission's website, at the respective local bodies, village offices, and taluk offices. The list is prepared by the Electoral Registration Officers in the local bodies as per the instructions of the Commission. The Secretaries of Panchayats and Municipalities and the Additional Secretary of Corporations are the Electoral Registration Officers.

Required Documents for Voter List Enrollment

Essential Information

To register on the voter list, you will need:

  • Name
  • House Name
  • Father's Name
  • Post Office
  • House Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Mobile Number
  • Serial number of a relative or neighbor on the voter list
  • A photograph (a white background photo taken on the phone is sufficient)

With these details, you can apply online to add your name to the voter list.

Documents Required for Hearing

The following documents must be presented at the hearing:

  • Copy of SSLC book
  • Copy of Aadhaar card
  • Copy of Ration card

(Originals must be carried)

  • Those residing in rented accommodation need a residence certificate from the Panchayat (a copy of the rent receipt must be submitted to obtain the residence certificate).
  • Married women must submit a copy of their marriage certificate (marriage certificate is not required if the name is on the ration card).

Those who have applied online must be present for verification at the respective Panchayat on the specified date.

How to Apply

For applying, you will need a photo, proof of age, proof of address, proof of name, and the voter ID number of a family member. Also, a working phone number is required.

Along with new applications, corrections and polling station changes can also be made.
